The objective of Northwest Detroit Weed and Seed’s Community Policing component is to create an environment in which law enforcement works closely with community residents to develop solutions to violent, drug-related crime and social disorder present in the Target Area.

Through a host of community-driven crime prevention efforts and community awareness programs, Northwest Detroit Weed and Seed has established hundreds of community partners and serves as a direct link between the community and the police.

Detroit Police Officers from the Northwestern and Western Districts have been assigned to the Weed and Seed Target Area These officers maintain a strong presence in the Target Area. Officers from both districts are also active participants in the Northwest Detroit Weed and Seed DRUG EDUCATION FOR YOUTH (DEFY) program – both in planning and implementation.

Northwest Detroit Weed and Seed has hosted several events toward improving the relationship between the community and police. A few include, a Community Policing Forum which was a unique opportunity for Northwest area residents to meet and dialogue with their local, state and federal law enforcement; a Business Owners Roundtable which joined area business owners together with police officers who patrol the area; and Teen Dating Violence Prevention Awareness Forum at Mumford High School.
