MPRI/Ready4Work Initiative

Goals of Project:

Prison Training: Work closely with MDOC to identify those prisoners who have completed the building trades curriculum and facilitate pre-release job placement and employment linkages to Ready4Work construction projects in Wayne County.

 

Subsidized Employment, Case Management and Mentoring: Work closely with non profit agencies and/or local social enterprises who will serve as the employer of record for MPRI R4W participants. As a sub contractor to the development projects of the Wayne County MPRI R4W, the non profit partner agency will provide supportive employment to MPRI participants. Additionally, the non profit partner will work with the MPRI Wayne County site to: Screen eligible participants/employees; Provide a supportive work environment consisting of case management services, faith-based mentoring; job placement assistance, and linkages to continued learning opportunities to better ensure long term, meaningful attachment to the workforce.

Full Time Employment and Job Retention: To identify developers, housing demolition and rehab contractors to partner with the public sector to expand jobs for former prisoners in order to reduce crime and expand the tax base.

 

Community Improvement: To amplify existing relationships between and among MSHDA, Land Bank, CDCs, public and private funders to fund and support the development of supportive housing in the community.

 

Housing Expansion: To expand the number of housing opportunities for families in need. To provide an opportunity for former prisoners’ families and children to live independently in supportive housing or in homes they own.
