FACTS ABOUT GUNS
- Most gunshot wounds are very painful from the moment they happen and often for a very long time after.
- Guns are not an effective way of protecting yourself or others. Only about 1% of all victims of violent crime used a gun to successfully defend themselves.
- For every person who dies by gunshot, there are five (5) more who suffer a long-term disabling injury. Rarely do people fully recover from a gunshot wound.
- Nearly half of all homicide victims are acquainted with or related to their killers
