Brightmoor Unity In The Community Celebration

During the Summer of 2007, the Detroit Community Justice Partnership served as volunteers and a sponsor at the 20th Annual Brightmoor Unity in the Community Celebration, March, and Rally. Each year, hundreds of Brightmoor residents, and visitors attend this event. The 2-mile parade partners community residents, churches, organizations, and businesses with Northwestern Districts law enforcement to alert the Brightmoor community of the current crime prevention efforts that are being implemented in Brightmoor. The parade begins and ends at Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church and culminates with a “battle of the bands” between Cass Tech and Southfield Lathrup High Schools. The parade features the winner and designer of the May Day T-shirt Artwork contest, clowns, city and state officials, custom cars, motor cycle units, and mounted sheriffs. Additionally, there are various activities, games, and rides for children, along with vendor tables, which include a host of crime prevention resources, health care screenings, and community resources that are available to Brightmoor residents.  We are pleased to count ourselves among the many individuals and organizations working to improve the quality of life in Brightmoor.
