Under
the leadership of U.S. Attorney Stephen Murphy, the Eastern District of Michigan
Project Safe Neighborhoods effort has three goals: 1) aggressively promote the
message that all firearm-related violent crime will be met with strict enforcement
and swift and certain punishment; 2) encourage citizens to work with local, state
and federal law enforcement to address firearm-related violent crime in their
communities; and 3) promote gun safety in the community.
The Eastern District
of Michigan's Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence PSN Committee is comprised of
representatives of the United States Attorneys Office, the Wayne County Prosecutor's
office, the City of Detroit Mayor's office, federal, state, and local law enforcement,
the business and religious community, community organizations, and neighborhood
residents within the Eastern District of Michigan. Together, the partnership
will continue to encourage citizens to work with local, state and federal law
enforcement to address firearm-related violent crime in their communities. Significantly,
the community outreach efforts will continue its work to promote gun safety throughout
the entire jurisdiction. The Eastern District of Michigan's Project Safe
Neighborhoods strategy involves a commitment toward prevention, research based
evaluation, and coordinated law enforcement. The Detroit Area Weed and
Seed sites have been selected to serve in partnership with the Project Safe Neighborhoods
task force to implement Project Sentry
initiatives within their respective Target Areas. The Project Safe Neighborhoods
effort also includes partnerships with three community based organizations who
will implement Project Sentry, a coordinated law enforcement effort between county
and state law enforcement agencies; community-wide awareness events and campaigns,
and supporting a state-wide crime reporting hotline. |
