DETROIT READS CHALLENGE
Tutoring Assistance

In 1999, Northwest Detroit Weed and Seed launched its Detroit READS Challenge. The goal of the Detroit READS Challenge is to mobilize volunteers to ensure that all children read well and independently by the end of third grade. Since its inception, several hundred youth have been serviced by volunteers at reading sites (Safe Centers) established in Northwest Detroit.

These Safe Centers serve as reading sites where children can, not only receive tutoring, but a variety of information and services.

All volunteer tutors are trained by the Literacy Volunteers of America Detroit.

If you are interested in being a hero to a child and serving as a volunteer tutor or would like a listing of reading locations and tutoring schedules please contact us.
