DON’T BE A VICTIM

Now that summer has emerged and we feel the need to get out of our homes a little more, whether exercising, spending some time at the mall, or a day out with the family, etc. here are some tips I’d like to share with you, so that you and yours can avoid begin a victim of crime.

THE FOLLOWING ARE VICTIM AVOIDANCE TIPS:

  1. AVOID THE VICTIM PROFILE : IT’S THE BEST FORM OF DEFENSE!!! SIMPLY STATED AVOID LOOKING LIKE AN EASY TARGET, REMEMBER THE ATTACKER IS ASSESSING THE POTENTIAL VICTIM’S APPEARANCE, BEHAVIOR AND BODY LANGUAGE.

  2. WALK BRISKLY, CONFIDENTLY, AND DON’T BE A WALKING JEWELRY STORE

  3. PROJECT A CONFIDENT AND ASSERTIVE LOOK

  4. IF YOU MUST CARRY ITEMS WITH YOU, UTILIZE A POUCH AROUND YOUR WAIST, AVOID WEARING LONG STRAPPED ITEMS LOOSELY ON YOUR SHOULDERS

  5. MAKE EYE CONTACT WITH THOSE AROUND YOU

  6. LOOK AROUND YOU AND BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS

  7. REACT BY SHOUTING AND YELLING IF POSSIBLE, OR WEAR A WHISTLE AND BLOW IT CONSTANTLY

  8. WALK OR DRIVE AROUND IN WELL LIT AREAS

  9. ALWAYS WALK IN A GROUP IF POSSIBLE; TRY TO AVOID WALKING ALONE

  10. AVOID ALL DARK PATHWAYS

  11. CARRY A CELL PHONE (CONCEALED)

  12. DO NOT WALK / DRIVE AROUND TALKING ON A CELL PHONE; IT KEEPS YOU DISTRACTED
