FIX
During the Spring of 2006, the Detroit Community Justice Partnership hosted 15 at the 3rd Annual FIX Conference. The focus of FIX Conference is to enhance the educational, vocational, moral, spiritual, and emotional development of minority youth to position themselves as meaningful roles in the community. During this conference, students engaged in various workshops and group discussions all focused on issues pertinent to today’s youth. They also have the opportunity to interact and network with youth of other cultures and from other schools.
This year, the 5th Annual FIC Conference will take place March 26-28, 2008, at Fellowship Chapel in Detroit, MI. The theme of this year’s conference is “And Still They Rise…A Generation of Promise.” This conference is free to youth males and females from 10-18 years of age.
The Fix Conference & Minority Male Exchange was established by the Flip the Script program of Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit and is committed to being a local catalyst in forging collaborative efforts to encourage positive solutions to many of the problems and issues affecting our community.
Flip the Script is a highly successful program that prepares minority men, ages 18 - 30 for successful entry into one of the 21 building trades apprenticeships and other related careers.
The primary goal of Flip the Script is to walk young minority males from lives of hopelessness to lives that show promise and fulfillment, and to help guide them on a path of economic empowerment versus typical programmatic systemic change.
The Fix Conference is unique in that it is open to young men, providing them a chance to dialog with professionals, educators, parents, and community leaders. The opportunity to learn from credible professionals while giving and receiving direct feedback from young men will make for an exciting and informative experience. Young men are encouraged to express their feelings and perceptions about the myriad of challenges they encounter in their daily lives.
