Youth Learn Messages of Prevention and ACT OUT solutions!

DPS students in various Northwest Detroit participated in a Gun Violence Prevention

Program that discussed the legal, medical and moral consequences of gun violence.

The Program focused on topics such as: Effective Decision Making; Taking Advantage of Opportunities Presented; the Trauma Unit Effects of Gun Violence; Character Development and Self Image, which are presented by a representative from the Michigan State Police, the Detroit Police Department, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, and a health professional.

In addition to police officers, the students heard riveting testimonies from survivors of gun shot injuries and how to avoid conflict peacefully. Members of the Pioneers for Peace told, not only of their stories of survival, but empowered the youth with tools to avoid conflict and use of violence to solve problems.
